For the first weekend in months I did not log on to my work computer. I was checking my Blackberry, but I had no planned tasks and no emergencies came up.
With “encouragement” from management, many of my fellow employees now have this as part of their e-mail signature:
Please consider the environment before printing this email.
At least one has made the message even stronger:
Think Green! Please do not print this e-mail unless
While another is less enthusiastic:
Please consider the unemployed loggers before printing this email.
I try not to think too much about the IRS, and hope that they do likewise in return. But there is no avoiding the subject.
I had to go to work on Sunday. That was the best part of it.
Just learned of the resignation of a colleague, “effectively immediately”. I was not real close to him, but I had worked with him occasionally on several projects. AFAIK, he was generally liked and respected, and the work he was involved in, e.g., security and disaster recovery, is fundamental to our business. So my first thought on reading the announcement was:
My second was:
That is one more vacancy between us and layoffs!
I think I am in a good position at work, even in the current economic crisis, but I cannot help remembering this.
