Staying with the program
As mia_mcdavid wrote, we had a great time with colgaffneyis at Pioneer Village. We got home about 9PM last night.
I overslept a bit, and felt rather tired when I got up for work today. I was thinking: “No way I am riding my bicycle this morning. I will take the Escort.” But when I went to the garage I looked at the Escort, saw the My other car is a bicycle bumper sticker, and ended up taking out the bike instead for my trip to the Rosedale park-and-ride.
On the bike again
Another bicycle ride to the bus stop on a beautiful morning. Rain is in the forecast, so the evening trip may be less pleasant. However, I am committed now.
Back in the saddle
I did not ride my bicycle at all last week, between the rain, scheduling issues, and just plain not waking up early enough. I did ride to and from the bus stop this morning and evening, enjoying my repaired bike and the perfect weather.
Fortunately my weight does not seem to have suffered during the hiatus, but I cannot count on that in the long run.
An interruption in my bicycle commuting
I started homeward from the bus stop on my bike and quickly realized something was badly wrong: This was being way too hard. Continue reading
Bicycle and bus
I rode my bicycle to and from the Rosedale park-and-ride (about three miles each way) both Monday and Tuesday. From there I took an express bus to work in downtown Minneapolis as I usually do. I gave my knees a break yesterday and drove to Rosedale, but I was back on the bike this morning. I hope to manage 3-4 carless commutes each week through the summer and early fall.
Long ago I read an article arguing that per passenger mile the bicycle was the most energy-efficient form of transportation known, not only to homo sapiens, but throughout the animal kingdom. It was in a reputable scientific publication, Physics Today IIRC, with plenty of numbers, equations, and graphs. I wonder if I could track down a copy of it.
Bicycle Commuting Note
I rode my bicycle to the Rosedale park-and-ride this morning, instead of driving there.
The standard belt clip on a Blackberry is not suitable for cycling. The upward hip motion while pedalling tends to dislodge it.
Fortunately, I discovered this before the thing fell on the pavement. From now on I will keep it in my briefcase or a bag while riding.
The weekend
Good Weekend
Late last week at work was difficult, and when I got home Friday night I was in something of a funk about all I had to do. However, I settled down to what had to be done, did it (insert Powdermilk Biscuits commercial) and had a good time.

Plans Made, and other news
I made my travel arrangements for Colorado Springs–going out Thursday morning, returning Sunday afternoon (assuming no new medical crisis). No problems arranging this at the office, to my considerable relief.
