Three Day Weekend
Three day weekend
Unlike a lot of people, I actually worked on Friday. The office was very quiet. Then I took three days off.
“High today: Not very”
The beginning of today’s weather forecast on the radio at 6:50 AM. Specifically, the high is expected to be between -5oF (-21oC) and 0oF (-18oC). Temperature at the time: -9oF (-23oC). But I am coping
Ubuntu installed!
I have installed Xubuntu on Antrim, one of my P III systems (I tend to use trailing edge hardware when it comes out of my own budget). The problems I had earlier this evening were due to bad CD’s. Lots of configuration still ahead. I will work on that tomorrow between tasks from my day job.
Computer-Intensive Weekend
The Two Towers
I am spending the work week in Bloomington (southern suburb) at a class on the Oracle database management system. It is my first exposure to the product.
However, I do know the office complex. It is on the 8th floor of the 8000 W.84th building. I have often been to the 8300 building, where Oracle’s rival Microsoft has its local offices.
The extra hour
Note the time stamp. Most Americans just “fell back” and are getting an extra hour of sleep. A few are up because it is their job to provide essential services (e.g. police, firefighting) just like on other nights. A very few would be asleep, but are up precisely because of falling back. I am one of them.
