Doing good in my sleep
I made another platelet donation (apheresis) at the Minneapolis Red Cross this morning. The procedure takes about two hours, and I ended up taking a nap during more than half of it. By Friday I am usually short of sleep, so this is not surprising.

Plaid, portraits, and pipes
Following up on my previous post, the same artist did a portrait of the Laird of Grant’s piper. I have also found an article about the portrait and the status of pipers and other musicians at the court of a Highland Chief.
Plaid, portraits, and politics
Many members of colgaffneyis have probably seen photos of this well known 1714 portrait of the Laird of Grant’s Champion (twolodge could model for it). I just found an interesting discussion of it as a political and social statement in its day.
A strange January in Minneapolis
Yesterday, on the way to work, I got off the bus at University avenue, wast of the River, and walked the last 1 1/2 miles or so to work. I was anticipating (correctly, as it turned out) a rough day at the office and wanted to get some exercise while I could. I was wearing my fall jacket and was perfectly comfortable. There was no snow on the ground. My initial idea was to get into the Skyway system as soon as I could reach it west of the Mississippi, but by the time I got there I decided not to bother and walked outdoors all the way to Government Center.
