It has been several months since I last made a significant change to my computer configurations. This past week I rebuilt my old Lenovo ThinkPad X240.This is an old machine with 8GB RAM. I removed Windows 10 from it back in October. It cannot cleanly run Windows 11, but has no problem with Linux.
The first thing I did was remove the 2TB SATA SSD in it and replace it with a similar 1TB drive. With storage being more expensive now I wanted to free up the larger drive for a more powerful machine. I then used gparted on my boot repair drive to create partitions for three linux systems. So far I have only installed one.
This is Xubuntu 26.04, my first look at the latest Ubuntu LTS release. The installation went quite well, as did my post-install configuration. The new Xubuntu looks good, although I have not yet seriously used it. I am writing this on an “old” Ubuntu 24.04 system which is still working quite well.
