Tall Ships in Duluth
On Saturday mia_mcdavid, carpe_noctum_93 (our foster daughter), and I drove up to Duluth to see the tall ships. The crowd was huge, but the parking was not too bad for those of us who are used to big cities. The ships were impressive. I took some pictures with my Blackberry, which you can see here.

A very white Christmas
On classical public radio they played Tchaikovsky’s Waltz of the Snowflakes earlier this morning. The announcer gave the name of the piece, and then said that beginning tonight we get “‘The Invasion of the Snowflakes’, or ‘Revenge of the Snowflakes'”.

This morning I heard a radio announcement about local chefs doing charity events. I immediately thought of another interpretation of the benefiting organization’s name.
Old pleasures rediscovered
Spring is coming!
It was actually just above freezing in downtown Minneapolis today, and I varied my skyway walk by going outside for a few blocks (without a coat). On Nicollet Mall I saw someone casting breadcrumbs on the sidewalk for the birds, and I felt the urge to burst into song (Lyrics here).
Of course, it is all a snare and a delusion. This is Minnesota. On the way home I heard a weather forecast for 6-7 inches of snow on Thursday.
