Northeast to Centerville Road and Highway 96 in White Bear Township, then west through North Oaks (where I saw a red fox cross the road in front of me), and south along Rice Street. About 15 miles.

Varied Sunday
Change in plans
mia_mcdavid and I had planned to help a friend move this morning, but this fell through and left us at loose ends. We visited the Mill City Farmer’s market, near downtown Minneapolis, which was fun, and afterwards went home.
I had been expecting some serious physical labor moving stuff, which had not happened. So to get some exercise I went for a bike ride. With a variety of twists, turns, and dead ends, I think I rode about 15 miles, with enough uphill stretches to make my legs really sore.
Clann Tartan Muster Weekend
This was the weekend of what colgaffneyis calls “Muster”–a reenactment training event for members. It was held on a lovely farm site just south of Mankato.
A little relief
I actually had something like a lunch hour today. Monday and Tuesday I was completely occupied with system crises all day long.
So I went out for a walk in the Skyway, to the Convention Center and then to the Hyatt Regency and back again. I did not even get any urgent e-mails on my Blackberry.
Day of Computers
Went out for a 2-mile run this morning, just to get in some exercise. First real running I have done in a while, but my knees survived.
A day off
….because of the Presidents’ Day Observance. I accomplished the first and foremost objective of any day off: Sleeping in. During the rest of the morning I helped mia_mcdavid with the process of “warping” her loom, for the Ulster tartan plaid she is weaving for me. Not difficult work, but it took a while. I am never going to be able to listen to Captain Kirk talk about “warp speed” in quite the same way again.
In the early afternoon the three of us ran a couple errands, then went for a two mile walk along Snelling Avenue. Bookstores at both ends gave this some additional definition and motivation, although I did not buy anything.
Over the course of the three day weekend I have done some organization of historical research materials that I had scattered about the house. They will be much more useful now, and in fact going through them I noticed a couple more references that are relevant to an ongoing discussion in colgaffneyis.
It’s warming up!
On my lunch hour walk I noticed that the thermometer on the TCF building was reading 0oF [-18oC]!
A strange January in Minneapolis
Yesterday, on the way to work, I got off the bus at University avenue, wast of the River, and walked the last 1 1/2 miles or so to work. I was anticipating (correctly, as it turned out) a rough day at the office and wanted to get some exercise while I could. I was wearing my fall jacket and was perfectly comfortable. There was no snow on the ground. My initial idea was to get into the Skyway system as soon as I could reach it west of the Mississippi, but by the time I got there I decided not to bother and walked outdoors all the way to Government Center.
