We skipped colgaffneyis Night at the Pub last night, but went out tonight and met several friends from that organization at an Irish Bar near downtown Minneapolis. The band was loud and rather indistinct where we were sitting, which was a disappointment. It was also very crowded. We had seven people in a booth for six. As a result I was squeezed between mia_mcdavid and c_nocturnum. I have no complaint ;-)> Working our way out through the crowd I tried to imagine what the place is like on St. Patrick’s Day and failed. Maybe they repeal the Pauli Exclusion Principle :-)>

Saturday night and Sunday
I got away from work yesterday just in time to go home so I could join the rest of the family for a music party. This was a good time. Several of the other guests were Carleton graduates, although I was (by a wide margin) the Dean of the group.
Keeping it simple
As colgaffneyis secretary, I am ultimately responsible for getting the monthly newsletter out on time. I am under extra pressure this month, because we have our annual business meeting the first weekend of February and a big show on the second weekend. Unfortunately the person who was to do the article on the show has been sick, so I decided to write it myself. With the right inspiration this took only a few minutes. I just recycled last year’s article, updating as needed, and added a couple points from the show’s web site.
Weekend stuff
Something New
New for me anyway…This morning was the first time I heard Lock-Keeper, a Stan Rogers song from 1983. Sung by John Gorka.
My April Foolishness
Not just me!
I was driving home from the bus park-and-ride this evening, and, as usual listening to the local Classical station. They played Wagner’s “Ride of the Valkyrie”. As always when this happens, I found myself fighting the urge to press down on the accelerator.
Afterward the announcer apologized for playing it during rush hour. It seems someone in the UK did a survey of music that was being played when a driver was in an accident. “Ride of the Valkyrie” was at the top of the list!
