Weekend so Far

I stayed home last night while mia_mcdavid went to a party at c_nocturnum‘s. Just too tired. I worked a little on some clothing for colgaffneyis and watched the second half of The Virgin Queen, which we had taped from Masterpiece Theater. Rather more episodic than part 1, skipping decades to get through the rest of her life. Did Walsingham really forge the crucial evidence that led to the execution of Mary Queen of Scots? I need to research that. The show also gave some detail on the Irish crisis (Tyrone’s rebellion, aka the Nine Year’s War) that led to the downfall of Essex in the last years of Elizabeth’s reign.

I had a good night’s sleep, which is just as well. I was suppose to have a relaxing afternoon today, skipping a colgaffneyis work session. It is not turning out that way. There is a crisis at the office, a follow-up to last weekend’s troubles. I have already done an hour’s work from home and will be going downtown before 2PM. Hopefully I will still be able to go to another friend’s party on the west side of Minneapolis tonight.

A lot going on

Busy days at work. Everybody seems to want me to help them. If the people I did the work for had the final say I would not be worried about my annual review. Unfortunately, my management regards a lot of these as “distractions”. They are rather vague about how people are supposed to get their work done without my help. I think I am making progress on their pet projects.

Spent some time today on colgaffneyis business. I exchanged several e-mails with the President (I am on the Board) about an unfinished piece of business from last summer. We appear to have very similar ideas about what went wrong then, and how to clear it up now.

More cutting back: mia_mcdavid has urged that I skip a party tomorrow night, and a colgaffneyis event Saturday afternoon. She is SWMBO, and I need to have some time at home. I will go to another party on Saturday night, and the Gaeltacht Minnesota fundraiser on Sunday.

Saturday

It does not feel like we did a lot today, but we finished something that I have been wanting to do for over a year. We rerouted the drainage for the sump pump so that the pipe does not freeze in the winter. It was a straightforward job with PVC pipe, and it worked just like it was supposed to. We tested the pump this evening and it drained correctly without leaking. A project completed, a worry gone.

After that we went to a wedding in south Minneapolis of two friends from colgaffneyis. It was at the home of c_nocturnum and 3stitches officiated. He does a very nice liturgy. This was very pleasant, but we could not stay long at the reception since we had to take James and his friend Matthew (like James an aspie) out to dinner–it is James’s birthday. They get along very well, but an intense conversation between two aspies with shared obsessions can be difficult for others. Fortunately, mia_mcdavid and I had each other. We went to the Macaroni Grill in Rosedale Mall, which has some very nice food that we can appreciate, while also having some basics that James (seriously palate-challenged) will eat happily. We all enjoyed it.

Keeping it simple

As colgaffneyis secretary, I am ultimately responsible for getting the monthly newsletter out on time. I am under extra pressure this month, because we have our annual business meeting the first weekend of February and a big show on the second weekend. Unfortunately the person who was to do the article on the show has been sick, so I decided to write it myself. With the right inspiration this took only a few minutes. I just recycled last year’s article, updating as needed, and added a couple points from the show’s web site.
