A couple days ago I walked past a group of my colleagues talking. I heard one of them say some familiar phrases, such as “occupational therapy” and “special ed”. Today I asked her about this. Sure enough, her son Jamie, 7 yrs. old, has Asperger’s syndrome. Many of her experiences were quite similar to what we have been through with our James, who is now 19. We talked for quite a while. It is always good to meet another member of the club.

…the party. It was great, but unlike mia_mcdavid, I could not go the distance–the day had been too long for me. I went to bed about 1 AM. I got up about 10 AM, and started on the after-party clean up. Off and on, it took most of the day. However, we had all the essentials done before 2 PM, and were able to have a nap before retrieving Tom from the Respite House. He had had a good time there–one of his better aides had been on duty over the weekend. However, he was very glad to see us. He has had dinner and is playing a video game now. We are back to a Sunday night routine.
Tom got up early again–7:20 AM. I am on watch now. Fortunately, he really loves the computer game he got yesterday, and is happily playing it now. This means Mia can sleep some more. All too often he insists that she get up in the morning–having Daddy is not good enough.
To do today —
There are probably other things as well, but I am not yet sufficiently awake to remember them.
The big accomplishment was getting to the Health Club twice, after being away for longer than I care to think about. Managed 1/2 hour on the exercise bike both times, followed by some weight work.
Also spent some time at Kinko’s, photocopying parts of a couple books I had obtained by Interlibrary Loan, of possible interest to members of colgaffneyis. Continue reading
