Out of administration

In less than two hours I will no longer be the Secretary of colgaffneyis. My replacement was elected without opposition at the annual business meeting earlier today. I am currently winding down my responsibilities. I wrote up the minutes of today’s meeting this evening. I will proofread them tomorrow or Monday and send them off to the new Board for approval or revision.

Sign of the times

Just learned of the resignation of a colleague, “effectively immediately”. I was not real close to him, but I had worked with him occasionally on several projects. AFAIK, he was generally liked and respected, and the work he was involved in, e.g., security and disaster recovery, is fundamental to our business. So my first thought on reading the announcement was:

WTF???

My second was:

That is one more vacancy between us and layoffs!

It works!

I finished rebuilding my foot-powered lathe this afternoon, and then did a some practise turning for a while. It seems to work just fine. I just need to get more practice with it. That will come: Turning is addictive. Also, since the power is supplied by pushing my foot against the treadle, this has some exercise value. The steps show up on my pedometer, which is reasonable. Pushing against the spring and the resistance of the wood is a lot more work than walking.

Murphy’s Mythical Musical Medical Malady

From Medical hoax: ‘Cello scrotum’ was just a test tickle.

“Sir, Though I have not come across ‘guitar nipple’ as reported by Dr. P. Curtis, I did once come across a case of ‘cello scrotum’ caused by irritation from the body of the cello. The patient in question was a professional musician and played in rehearsal, practice, or concert for several hours each day. I am, etc., J.M. Murphy.”
