Friday Night and Saturday

I must have been exhausted: I went to bed at 8:30 last night and slept until 9:30 this morning.

It has been a pleasant day in a low-key kind of way. Progress on various fronts for the house and colgaffneyis, and spending a lot of time with mia_mcdavid.

Mia wants me to make a weaver’s bench to sit on in front of her loom. So we went to the Textile Center in Minneapolis, where there was a loom just like what she has here and a bench that she finds comfortable when using it. Key dimension: Height 25″.

One bit of geekery: I got the streaming audio from “A Prairie Home Companion” to work under Linux (Slackware 12). It hung with Firefox, but worked with Konqueror (under Xfce). Different plug-ins. I should look into this some more, but for now I have to give a point to the KDE team.

All in all, a good Saturday.

Sunday Cleaning

As mia_mcdavid wrote, we did indeed clean out the rumpus room today. I had hoped to make some progress there, but we did far more than I had expected. It really is looking sort of decent, as garage/workrooms go. The next step for me is to clean off my workbenches, both the old one that came with the house and the one that I built here specifically for woodworking with hand tools. For that I will need to find and/or make some storage. I have some ideas about how to do that, but I probably will not get much done until next weekend.

One way or another, almost all weekend I have been doing things with mia_mcdavid. It has been good.

Home Alone

mia_mcdavid is still in Dublin (she flies to Chicago tomorrow) and James is away on a two-night field trip. I think he packed way too much–a metric shitload of stuff, but he went cheerfully and it is not my problem anyway. He and Mia both get back here late Wednesday afternoon.

Of course, I don’t have much time at home, at least while conscious. Work during the day, Irish class tonight, and colgaffneyis dance group tomorrow night.

Update on the Travelers, and those left behind

mia_mcdavid and her mother are in the northern Chicago suburbs, staying with a family friend. They fly to Dublin tonight.

I got J up and off to school yesterday and today, without too much whining on his part.

Last night I started a sewing project for my colgaffneyis kit. I had been procrastinating about it for months. Not a big job, but the fitting is fussy.

We might have visitors this weekend. Some old (30+ years) friends were talking about stopping by on their way between South Dakota and Michigan. That was a couple weeks ago, before I went to Colorado, and they have not called back, unless they talked to Mia while I was away. So there may be a van with Michigan plates sitting in my driveway tonight.
