Thanksgiving

As mia_mcdavid wrote, we had a private Thanksgiving. That is life with Tom.

I got up first. Our plan was to cook the turkey on the grill on the back porch, and it was snowing (this is Minnesota). So I was a little concerned about starting the fire. Actually I had no trouble–I had an awesome blaze in minutes. In the last few years, perhaps because of camping with colgaffneyis, I am much more in touch with my inner pyro :-)>

After Mia got up we had a scramble to get the turkey ready and on the grill. After that we had some down time until it was time to get Tom–just periodically basting the turkey and putting more coals on the fire. I took the opportunity to install Linux on Mia’s workstation, which went quite well. She has been using it this evening. The McDavid household has not given Bill Gates anything to be thankful for lately :-)>

The dinner went well. The turkey was perfect. There was the usual hassle of keeping Tom out of trouble, but he really enjoyed the dinner and being with us. Cleanup was simplified by the cold weather–a lot of the leftovers are just sitting on the back porch, just covered to protect them from critters. We can process them at leisure over the weekend.

I am listening to Kia Cashman’s CD, which I bought at her release party last Sunday. Lovely, although “Stolen Minds” strikes close to home–it makes me think of Tom.
