Connections at the Fair
haddayr and I were pleased to see two of our friends from our Irish Class stop by colgaffneyis camp. We introduced them and showed them around. c_nocturnum showed one of them how to wear a greatkilt, and bullettheblue sold him a bonnet that twolodge had made.
Another visitor was a computer consultant I know from work and his wife. Recognition was delayed a second because of unfamiliar dress: I had never seen him in shorts and T-shirt, and he had never seen me in a kilt. One of those “he looks familiar…” moments, then I recognized the corporate logo on his shirt.
I also saw one of my Carleton folk dance connections, who came by with his wife and child. He works for the college now, but Farmington is at least as easy to reach from Northfield as from the Cities.
A brief getaway
I spent my lunch hour at the Hennepin County Law Library. Not for any legal business–I brought some of my Irish books and notes there to prepare for tonight’s class. If I had stayed at my desk somebody would have interrupted me. It was pleasant and productive. I like libraries.

Not quite as planned
Technologies New and Old
After I got home tonight I did a little work for my employer. Nothing terribly difficult–just a system test that could not be done in normal business hours.
Meanwhile, using another computer (my own, not my employer’s) I tried to check e-mail. Unfortunately, it failed to boot. Looks like a hard-disk problem. I will try a file-system repair (this is a Linux box) from a rescue CD tomorrow night. I have a recent backup of my data, so I am not really worried even if that fails. I have another hard disk I can put in the machine and reinstall everything (I am writing this on yet another machine).
I did not do anything about that tonight because mia_mcdavid needed help with her new loom. I made a raddle, a gadget to aid her in the process of warping. This appears to be working quite well, so I have accomplished something. The computer will keep until tomorrow.
Wednesday
Got a lot done at work today, and took care of some my duties to colgaffneyis.
However, I still have this cold. Not wanting to infect my friends, I am going to skip colgaffneyis dance group tonight. mia_mcdavid will go by herself.
