Three day weekend

The weekend did not work quite as planned. As mia_mcdavid wrote, I have been sick this weekend. A badly upset stomach Friday night, and then a cold the rest of the weekend.

Still, I was able to do a few things. Saturday I bought some leatherworking supplies and tools, then joined mia_mcdavid at colgaffneyis camp drill. I regretfully decided I was not feeling up to joining the kilted expedition to Keegan’s pub for that evening. Maybe next month.

Mia, Tom, and I went to church Sunday morning. Gen (Mia’s mother) and James stayed home. Mia was serving at the altar, which again left me one-on-one with Tom in the pew. I was a little concerned about this; he knows something is up, and has been more difficult lately. However, this was more than offset by the weather. The 90oF+ temperatures slowed him down considerably (The church is not air conditioned).

That afternoon Mia and I shopped at S.R. Harris fabric warehouse. I found a few yards of a nice, primarily blue, lightweight tartan wool which I can use for a summer great kilt for colgaffneyis. It really is a tartan, in terms of even the strictest definition in terms of symmetries (The subject has a certain mathematical appeal to me). Don’t know if it has a name–I need to find out how to do a reverse (given the pattern, find the name) tartan lookup. There is a standard notation for these things, so it should be possible.

Of course, none of this really matters for colgaffneyis. Named (Clan or 0therwise) tartans are a construct of the 19th century.

Today, as Mia wrote, we had more coverage for Tom than we expected. Mia, Gen, and I went out for lunch and a little shopping in the early afternoon. It was a pleasant time.

I have been fortunate this weekend to have a leatherworking project that I could handle while not feeling 100%. That way I could feel I was doing something–not just sitting around being miserable.
