The morning started out with work. My job regularly involves doing things on evenings and weekends, so as not to disturb the people who are actually using the systems during the business day. In this case I was moving two databases from one server to another. Nothing particularly difficult or interesting in and of itself, but the work had to be coordinated with the application and the network staff, so that all the parts were in the right place at the right time. We had a plan and we had rehearsed it, so I was not too worried, but a painfully acquired knowledge of Murphy’s law cost me some sleep and got me started early. Still, it went according to plan.
After that we had breakfast and went to Church. mia_mcdavid was serving at the altar again, but with Tom at respite that was no special strain on me. The sermon was OK, though Fr. Michael again seems to be following a trendy theological line rather than considering all the evidence.
Mia went to a staff meeting for colgaffneyis afterwards. James and I picked up one of his friends to spend the afternoon at our house. That went OK. It was a lovely day in Minnesota, but, like Mia, I was tied up with colgaffneyis business. In my case there was not even a social aspect to it; just a difficult but necessary piece of documentation. Later in the afternoon I spent some time putting together a spaghetti dinner for tonight (rice spaghetti for Tom–he is on a gluten-free diet).
I did get out for a bit. I did a bit of painting near the shed. Mia had evicted a couple wood structures, the uprights from my now defunct pole lathe, from the shed. I primed them so I can keep them outside if necessary. Don’t know what I will do with them, but it seems a shame to throw them away. Yes, I know: This way madness lies.
With more immediate purpose I picked some asparagus, actually a lot of asparagus, from Mia’s garden for dinner. I nibbled on a couple stalks afterwards–they were good. For various reasons we ended up in a use-it-or-lose-it position–we have to eat the asparagus tonight. It’s a dirty job but somebody has to do it!
