There are many people I know who could have written the second article. The first place I would look is in a mirror.

As colgaffneyis secretary, I am ultimately responsible for getting the monthly newsletter out on time. I am under extra pressure this month, because we have our annual business meeting the first weekend of February and a big show on the second weekend. Unfortunately the person who was to do the article on the show has been sick, so I decided to write it myself. With the right inspiration this took only a few minutes. I just recycled last year’s article, updating as needed, and added a couple points from the show’s web site.
In today’s mail was a copy of The Rejection Collection: Cartoons You Never Saw, and Never Will See, in The New Yorker. It is recommended “to fans of The New Yorker…and to anyone with a slightly sick sense of humor.” I enjoyed it thoroughly.

You have all been there. You put in long hours, hard work, and heartbreak for something you believe is worthwhile. Along comes some lazy loudmouth who shows no appreciation of your efforts and does nothing but complain. When it happens to me, I think of this recording.
