For some time now I have wanted to make a copy of Roy Underhill’s folding workbench. It would be something I could take to colgaffneyis events, both for formal demos and as a useful table to have around. Continue reading
I made a platelet donation (apheresis) at the Red Cross this afternoon. BP 122/80. I walked there from work and back to the bus stop afterwards, so I got some exercise in the process.
From Medical hoax: ‘Cello scrotum’ was just a test tickle.
“Sir, Though I have not come across ‘guitar nipple’ as reported by Dr. P. Curtis, I did once come across a case of ‘cello scrotum’ caused by irritation from the body of the cello. The patient in question was a professional musician and played in rehearsal, practice, or concert for several hours each day. I am, etc., J.M. Murphy.”

Writing – 2 minutes to Better Health
From my high school and college classmate, Edith Bogue, O.S.B.
I wore my pedometer all day today. It has several scales on it, including calories used. Figuring that Playford and similar dances are basicly walking, I recorded the numbers before and after colgaffneyis dance session this evening. The pedometer reports that my walking today expended 665 calories. 99 of those were during dance. Furthermore, though I walked over 2300 steps during dance (not just dancing, but also the general hanging around), I was not active enough for a continuous period for any of those 2300+ to count as aerobic exercise. The pedometer reports that I managed 5543 aerobic steps today over a total of 40 minutes, which must have come from walking the skyway over lunch hour.
Yes, I know: All of these figures about calories and aerobic exercise are rough approximations. However, they are all I have got, and far more than I had before.
I am still suffering from the cold I referred to last last week. Over the weekend I thought I was getting better, but things were much worse on Monday. I missed Irish class that night and choir on Wednesday, though I did get to colgaffneyisdance on Tuesday. I have an appointment at our clinic tomorrow afternoon. This has gone on long enough.
mia_mcdavid is in Chicagoland for the weekend. She is staying tonight with a friend from her old job at First Chicago. Tomorrow she will go downtown and meet up with her mother for the weekend.
I have had a bad cold for nearly a week now. I stayed home from work sick for Tuesday afternoon and all of Wednesday. I have been able to go about most of my normal business since then, but the symptoms are still there. Not pleasant.
