A hot Saturday in Minnesota

Anticipating a hot day we scheduled our visit with Tom for the morning, picking him up at his group home about 10 AM. We walked around Lake of the Isles in western Minneapolis, which is less crowded than Lake Calhoun and Lake Harriet to the south. Tom did very well with this and we all got some exercise. Afterwards we took him to lunch at the Convention Grill in Edina, which was good, cheap, and not a chain outlet. Tom was fine about this, except that a lot of ketchup ended up in his hands, on his shirt, or (much worse) on mia_mcdavid. After this we took Tom back to his home and then returned to Roseville.

Mia stayed home in the afternoon, while I went to the Minnesota Irish Fair to help at the Gaeltacht Minnesota table. I rode my bicycle there, anticipating a relatively easy ride in (downhill), and paying for it on the return. However, there was a strong south wind, so my inbound ride was harder than expected.

Working at the Fair was quite pleasant. My colleagues there were all from the advanced class, but were perfectly nice to me, and I was able to contribute my share to the afternoon’s work. One of them is a fellow home brewer. His technique (all-grain), is more advanced than mine, but he was quite impressed that we had a hops plant in the back yard.

As the day wore on the weather changed. The immediate results were pleasant–the sun was obscured behind clouds. However, the prospect of serious storms led WK, our leader, to offer me and my bike a ride back to Roseville. This I accepted with gratitude, getting home a little before 8 PM.
