A very cold day, subzero (Fahrenheit) all day long. However, the house furnace works, we have warm clothes, and at least one of our cars will start. That is really enough to get by.
The event of the day was colgaffneyis annual business meeting, featuring elections to the Board of Directors and the adoption of a budget. twolodge was elected Vice President. Nobody else was interested in being Secretary, so I was reelected. Two more years…. The Budget was approved, and we seem to have a workable solution to our transportation problems. It seems that for a tolerable amount of money we can have a second axle (and associated wheels and tires) added. This would allow it to safely carry all the stuff we have for it. All in all, a remarkably (and unexpectedly) easy meeting. Afterwards several of us stopped off at a local bar for lunch and a well-earned celebration.
I was not required to go to the office today, but several of my colleagues were working there in the late afternoon and I had a small part to play in the activities. This was simply to confirm that one of the SQL Server systems was working correctly after some network recabling. I was able to do this from home in just a few minutes, after which mia_mcdavid and I took a nap.
After waking up I felt the ancient human response to cold: Build a fire. Mia and I sat and watched it for a couple hours. I worked on a very old project I had brought from Chicago: A vest of leather lamellar armor. This is really not appropriate for colgaffneyis, being more of an Eastern European and Asian fashion. So it is unlikely I will have an occasion to wear it any time soon. I just want to get it to the point where it could be worn if the occasion came up. The leatherworking practise may also be helpful in other projects.
