Pleasantly slow Sunday

Slept until about 9 AM, but were up and about in plenty of time to get to church. We had missed two weeks running, so it was good to be back.

Afterwards mia_mcdavid went to see Tom, which went well. I spent an hour or so editing and printing the hard copy edition of colgaffneyis newsletter, then studied Irish for a while. Afterwards we reconnected and bought a battery for our other car, as Mia wrote elsewhere.

We went home and napped. I worked a little in the shop. My alterations to the shaving horse require cutting a mortise 8″ x 1½” through 2¼” of wood. In the spirit of the project I am doing this entirely with hand tools. Of course, the only power tools I have that could help are a couple electric drills, and an auger bit in a Bell brace is a more than adequate substitute.

If I really wanted to be true to the spirit of the work, I would use a spoon bit. I actually have a few spoon bits (a gift from Mia) but they are really too small for this. Maybe next time.
