Tá m’iníon ag tosu a thiomáint inniu.

[This provoked considerable discussion and sympathy :-)> ]

Dá mbeadh slaitín draíochta againn!

  1. SAMHLAIGH dá mbeadh an
    domhan ina maireann muid
    iomlán difriúil. Samhlaigh dá
    mbeadh an chumhacht agat
    do dhomhan fhéin a chruthú
    agus d’amlíne fhéin a leagan
    amach!

Imagine if the whole world we live in is completely different.
Imagine if you have the power to create your own world and lay out your own timeline!

    mair live
    cumhacht power
    crutaigh create, form vn cruthú
  2. Seo comhrá spraoiúil a thagann aníos go minic idir mé
fhéin agus mo chairde agus is
    éagsúil na smaointe a bhíonn
    againn ar fad.

Here is a fun conversation that often comes up between myself and my friends
and all the various ideas we have.

    comhrá conversation
    spraoi fun, sport, spree m4
    spraoiúil amusing, playful
    éagsúil unlike, different, various
  3. Seo meascán de na bealaí a
    n-athródh muide ár saol féin
agus roinnt de na hathruithe a
    dhéanfadh muid ar an
    domhan.

This [is a] mixt of the ways to change our own lives
and some of the changes we would make to the world.

  4. • Stopfadh an próiseas
aosaithe ag fiche a cúig. Piocadh an uimhir sin mar go
    mbeadh muid sách sean lenár
    gcuid cinntí féin a dhéanamh
ach fós sách óg chun go maithfí dúinn na rudaí amaideacha a
    dhéanann muid.

he aging process would be stopped at twenty-five.
That number would be picked because we would be old enough to make our own decisions
but still young enough that we would forgiven for the foolish things we do.

    sách full, sated, enough
    cinneadh decision
  5. • Bheadh dragúin againn ar
fad ionas go mbeadh muid in
ann a bheith in aon áit ar
    domhan taobh istigh de chú-
    pla nóiméad agus nach
    bheadh orainn a bheith
    imníoch faoi rialacha bagáiste
    Ryanair go brách arís.

We would all have Dragons so that we could be anywhere in the world within a couple minutes
and we would never again be anxious about Ryanair’s baggage rules.

    imníoch anxious
    go brách arís never again
  6. • Bheadh samhradh ceart
againn in Éirinn, mar gurb í an
tír is fearr ar domhan í nuair a
    bhíonn an ghriain ag scalladh.

We would have a proper summer in Ireland,
because it is the best country in the world when the sun is scorching.

    scalladh scalding
  7. • Bheadh an Rás Aigéin
Volvo i nGaillimh chuile bhliain! Tuigeann muid ar fad cén
fáth. Seo í an fhéile is fearr
    riamh.

The Volvo Ocean Race would be in Galway every year! We all understand why.
This is the best festival ever.

    aigéin ocean
  8. • Bheadh sé riachtanach go mbeadh ar a laghad
leathchéad péire bróg Christian Louboutin ag chuile bhean.

Every woman would need to have at least 50 pairs of Christian Louboutin shoes.

    riachtanach necessary
    ar a laghad
  9. • Ní rithfeadh an domhan
amach as airgead go deo mar
    go mbeadh rialtais chliste ag
gach tír agus bheadh cosc ar
    dhaoine a bheith santach. (Níl
    sé santach go mbeadh
    leathchéad péire bróg
    Louboutin ag gach bean!)
The world does not run out of money ever since every country has a smart government
that each country and would prevent people from being selfish. (It’s not selfish for every woman to have 50 pairs of
    Louboutin shoes !)

    go deo forever
    cosc prevention
    santach selfish
  10. • Ní chuirfeadh siúcra meáchan ar bith ort.
Sugar would not put any weight on you.

    <!–

    –>

    meáchan weight

  11. • Is ag na fir a bheadh na
páistí. (Is linne, na mná, an domhan agus sin mar a
    bheadh sé,)

The men would have the children. (This is ours, [from] the women, as the world would be)

  12. • Bheadh muid uilig in ann gach teanga ar domhan a labhairt
We would all be able to speak every language on earth.

  13. • An t-aon uair a bheadh
    beagánín teannais idir dhá
thír, ná nuair a bheadh an
    Chraobh Domhanda Iománaíochta á himirt.

The only time that would be few tensions between two countries,
when the Hurling World Championship/Cup would be played.

    teannas tension
    craobh branch, bough, championship
    iomáin hurling
  14. • Bheadh Dé Luain mar
chuid den deireadh seachtaine. Ceithre lá a bheadh i
    ngach seachtain oibre.

Monday would be part of the weekend. There would be four days each work week.

    <!–

    –>

  15. • Thiocfadh an mhaidin
    beagánín níos deireanaí sa lá
    agus bheadh ´siestas´ i ngach
    tír.

The morning would come a little later in the day and there would be ‘siestas’ in every country.

    <!–

    –>

  16. • Ní bheadh tíogair fiáin.
    Bheadh siad againn mar
    pheataí in éineacht lenár
    madraí agus na dragúin.

Tigers would not be wild. We would have them as pets along with our dogs and the Dragons.

    tiogar tiger m1
    fiáin wild, lawless
  17. • Bheadh gach bean in ann
    cócaráil ar nós Nigella Lawson
    agus labhairt cosúil léi freisin
    agus muid ag cócaireacht?! (Ná
fir a tháinig suas leis an gceann
    sin!)

All women would be able to cook like Nigella Lawson and talk like her too and while we’re cooking?!
(Men [did not] who came up with that one!)

    <!–

    –>

  18. • Agus ar deireadh bheadh
    Elvis, Marlyn Monroe agus
    Frank Sinatra fós beo! Ag
casadh ar stáitse go minic in
    éineacht leis na Saw Doctors!

And finally Elvis, Marlyn Monroe and Frank Sinatra would still be alive!
On stage often together with the Saw Doctors!

ag casadh ar stáitse [coming] on stage
éineacht at the same time, together

Nuair a léigh mé an scéal seo cuimhne mé radharc sa scannán “Miss Congeniality.” Bhí comórtas áilleachta ann.
Iarradh ar gach na mná óga cad mhian leo chun. Dúirt siad go léir “Síochána Domhanda.”

Bh

When I read this story I remembered a scene in the movie “Miss Congeniality.” There was a beauty contest.
All the young women were asked what they wished for. They all said “World Peace.”

Blianta ó shin léigh mé an t-úrscéal “Cáisc Dubh”, scríofa le James Blish. Bhí roinnt draoidoirí/draothe sa scéal.
Bhí cuid acu ealíona speisialta. Bhí draoidoir amhain in ann a bhaint as na scamaill an intinn na polaiteoirí.

Years ago I read the novel “Black Easter”, written by James Blish. There were several magicians in the story.
Some of them had special skills. One magician was able to remove the clouds from the minds of politicians.
