Happy Lady Ada Day!

Today is Ada Lovelace Day

In accordance with the Pledge, I would like to recognize the work of Margaret Geller . She and John Huchra discovered the Great Wall. This is one of the largest objects in the universe: Over 500 million light years long. That is 5,000 times the diameter of our entire galaxy.

My contribution last year is here.

Soviet Memorials on the Moon Honoring Women

From Universe Today:

Emily Lakdawalla from the Planetary Society uncovered an interesting tidbit about the Lunokhods which she generously passed on to me. After a little research, I found out more about an “extracurricular activity” the two Lunokhod rovers were commanded to do along their traverses on the lunar surface. They each created “memorials” to women on the Moon.
