The Rev. LeeAnne Watkins, Rector of St. Mary’s Episcopal Church was obviously having a really good time at this morning’s Eucharist. It was a delight to be part of the event.

Sunday morning, of course, is show time for Christian clergy, and some tension and nervousness would be understandable. I have certainly seen it often enough. But there was nothing of that with LeeAnne this morning. She was relaxed and happy.

While as preacher and celebrant she certainly was on center stage, the service was not about her. It is about Jesus and the Christian community. Everybody present had a part. LeeAnne knew she could count on us to do our parts, and that allowed her to do hers so cheerfully. Liturgy is the work of all the people and she understands that perfectly. I am very happy to do my part.
