Saturday–Clann Tartan and Church

The quarterly meeting of colgaffneyis turned out better than I had feared. We did get a candidate for Head Camp Follower, who was quickly elected so she would not have time to get cold feet. She has not held office in the organization before, but is married to a Board Member. Well, that is one way to integrate new talent.

We also elected several junior staff members. mia_mcdavid seems quite pleased with the crew she has.

After the meeting four of our members, including mia_mcdavid drove to Fargo for an evening event there. Initial reports by telephone are quite positive.

Meanwhile I went home, did a little housework and spent some time in the shop. There I worked on repairing a signboard for colgaffneyis as well as moving a couple sets of shelves. The result of the latter is that I now have clear access to my workbench from three sides. Now I just need to keep it that way.

I also got two phone calls from work in the afternoon, asking me to help with a couple details of a big software conversion. No big deal–I knew I was on-call, and I could do what I needed to from home.

In the evening I went to a dinner and talent show at our Church. This was quite pleasant although I unaccountably forgot one of the basic rules of Episcopal Church social events: Bring booze. Still, one of the others at my table shared some of his beer with me, and it was a pleasant time. The talent show had some really good musical acts–there really is talent there. I think I heard someone say that a couple of the singers go to the 8AM service to avoid being asked to join the choir.

The event ended promptly at 9PM–Somebody there knows how to manage a schedule. I stayed around for another half hour to help with cleanup, for which profuse thanks from the organizer. I enjoyed working on that. Somehow in three months I have found it easier, and more fun, to get involved at St. Mary’s than in eight years at St. Christopher’s.

Bedtime soon. I hope I will get to enjoy an extra hour of sleep. However, the Fall time change has implications for computer systems, and at work we have taken precautions to protect against confusion from the repeated 1AM-2AM hour. If something goes wrong I may get called. This would not be an issue if all the timestamps were GMT in the first place, but my opinion really does not seem to count on these issues.
