There was a lot it of yesterday and today, but I made it to work both days. mia_mcdavid, James, and I were able to shovel enough of a passage in our driveway to let our cars through on both days. And I do mean shovel–no greenhouse impact from our efforts. Furthermore our cars, which are nothing fancy (’92 Geo Prizm and ’95 Ford Escort) were able to get us where we needed to go. In my case that meant to the park-and-ride at the bus stop and back.
Part of this, of course, is being realistic about where we needed to go. No special long trips. Another part is having a happy home, so spending a lot of time there is not a hardship. Quite the contrary.
I did not feel like I had made any great effort, but my office was rather lonely today. I think at least 2/3 of the division were out. I was hoping for a rather peaceful day, but a few other people were there and one of them had a systems emergency that kept me busy most of the day. Difficult case: The database issues (my job) were straightforward, but what the application was doing was not, and we did not have an application support person for this system. I am trying to avoid being sucked into that role. For once I find myself agreeing with my managers about what I should be doing.
Somewhere in all of this I managed to get the hardcopy newsletters for colgaffneyis printed. They are late, but for once that is not a big deal; we don’t have any special events in early March. I stuffed the envelopes this evening and tomorrow I will mail them.
