It looks like I will be going to Winona tomorrow, and James will be staying behind. He has been quite responsible this week, so we are going to try this.
I took today off, but I stayed more or less local. There were things I wanted to do before packing, such as sleeping. I also got some woodworking stuff ready for the weekend, and sorted a lot of mail that was lying around. Most of that, of course, ended up in the recycling bag.
In the morning I drove down to Northfield. I had a meeting with one of the Carleton College web administrators, to learn how to create and manage web pages for my alumni class web site, as part of planning for our 35 year reunion next year. It was as good an hour of computer education as I have ever had in my career. The content management software really is quite flexible and easy to use, and I got a very nice tutorial on how to work with it. Jaye (the web admin) was very knowledgeable and charming. It was really a fun time. I am really excited about moving forward with this (as if I did not have enough other things to do).
On the way home I stopped off for a few minutes at the local Episcopal Church, where our former associate from St. Christopher’s is now in charge. She was not in, but I chatted briefly and left my name with the Secretary, who seemed a little surprised that one of Gayle’s former parishioners would stop in for a visit. Well, as the old line goes, I just happened to be in the neighborhood. It was not at all out of my way.
On the way back I stopped at Tool Raiders in Bloomington, looking for used tools. I only spent a few dollars there. I looked at some large auger bits, but figured they will still be there another time. More tempting was a Stanley #6 plane in quite good condition. At $50 I let it go. It was not a bad price, but not a great one either. Also, with two #5’s (one a Bedrock), a #7, and a 608 (Bedrock version of the #8), I cannot really say I need a #6 (For more information about these numbers see Patrick’s Blood and Gore).
So…this evening I packed. I have a little shopping to do in the morning, then I am off to Winona for the weekend with colgaffneyis. mia_mcdavid has been there all week and I am really looking forward to being with her again.
