Looking Back

This is alumni weekend at Carleton College. Since it is not a reunion year for my class (1972) I had not planned on attending. However, during the chaos of early June I learned that there will be a special gathering for alumni of the college folk dance club, from all classes. I found the folk dancers on the first Thursday of Winter quarter, 1969, and never looked back (Clann Tartan folks–this is what got me started–I think I learned my first duple minor that winter).

Rather short notice this year–last time (2002) it was announced months in advance. It made me a lot more interested in going down to Northfield, but with getting Tom settled at the Group Home and colgaffneyis expedition to Twig, I could not think about practicalities.

Of course, housing on campus has been filled for weeks, since before I got the invitation, and in fact spending the whole weekend would probably not have been practical in any case. However, there is going to be some late-night folk dancing and singing on Saturday. It would be really nice to stay for that without having home in the wee hours. Fortunately, I was just able to reach a classmate who assured me this will be no problem!
