Sentences

  1. We will be eating the potato chips.
Beidh muid (Beimid) ag ithe na mbrioscaí
    prataí.
    .

brioscaí prataí potato chips 2 nouns, so 2nd is gen.

In the sentence brioscaí follows the vn, so it is also in gen., and hence eclipsed.

  2. We will be eating them.
    Beidh muid (Beimid) á n-ithe..

    <!–

    –>

á “for them” Plural, hence ithe is eclipsed

  3. You [pl.] don’t have to eat the sweets.
Ní chaiteann sibh na milseáin a ithe.

    a “that”

A vn that could be lenited would be here. Ithe cannot be lenited.

  4. You don’t have to eat them.
Ní chaiteann sibh iad a ithe.

    <!–

    –>

iad them Used when not next to a noun.
Not really an object form, but often looks like one.

1 and 2 have bare forms of “be”.
3 and 4 are modal forms.

  5. Unless you want to.
    Mura maith libh.

    if
    mar like, as, because
    mura if not, unless
Mura maith libh “Unless good with you” From Mura ba mhaith libh (copula)
    Dialect forms
    mura C.O.
    mur Don.
    muna Muns.
    mara Cois.

Mura, 7rl normally eclipse the following word. However, in the example above,
    maith cannot be eclipsed.

If the word that follows mura (and its variants) begins with a vowel, then it
becomes murab, 7rl. The -b is the remnant of the conditional copula
    ba.
