A pleasant low-key day. Watched The Woodwright’s Shop in the morning, in which Roy Underhill talked about the spirit of woodworking. This was quite good and funny–Roy does not take himself too seriously.
Did a little woodworking myself afterwards, or rather I tried to and got a lot of exercise in the process. I was trying to make a new froe club (having donated my old one to colgaffneyies). This really should be done with a green log but I was using a dry ash branch about 7″ thick. In the process I sawed through it twice, and most of the way through once more. My arms are still sore. I then attempted to split off the excess from the handle. The problem was the splits went too far, going through what was to have been the head, ending the projects. Well, it was still practise in splitting wood, which is worthwhile in an of itself.
mia_mcdavid and I ran a couple errands on Grand Avenue in St. Paul, then went to colgaffneyis drill. This was rhymeswithghoti‘s first official activity as Captain, and she handled it very well.
Back home I took care of a small home repair job while Mia went shopping, then cooked dinner. Mia and I are now sitting in front of the fireplace watching our first fire of the season. I am writing this on the laptop I took on my trip, which I will have to return on Monday. Next time I will have to use the Nokia, but that will not be any great hardship.
