Tuesday Evening

Dance practise for colgaffneyis last night was cancelled. Our usual space at the Church was a polling place for the day and early evening–primary elections here in Minnesota. The Church has usually been able to find another space for us, but last night was quite busy. Apparently the Bishop called a special meeting there last night, and he got the last free space. So we had the evening off.

I spent an hour cleaning up my travelling tools, some of which had gotten rusted in the Des Moines rain. This went well–the rust was light, and steel wool, oil, and fine sandpaper quickly took care of it. This has also forced me to clean out the tool tote I bring to colgaffneyis events, a good thing since I really need to reorganize it.

I was a little jumpy all evening: I do computer work for a government unit, and was on call in case of trouble with the election reporting system (Nobody wants to be like Florida in 2000). By e-mail I was notified of a mysterious error with one server, but

  1. It was not the system with the Elections database.
  2. After logging on and running a few simple tests I convinced myself that there was no serious application failure and that the server was still running correctly.

There was one phone call, but it had nothing to do with work. More about that another time, maybe.

mia_mcdavid and I have a new rule: No television after 9 PM on weeknights. This lets us wind down and get to sleep earlier. In fact, we were in bed not long after 9:30 and I fell asleep shortly afterwards.
