Yesterday my son Tom, another resident of his group home, and two staff members went to visit the Twin City Model Railroad Museum. I joined them there.
The good news is that Tom loves the Model Railroad Museum.
The bad news is also that Tom loves the Model Railroad Museum.
Tom was entranced by the trains. We were having a great time. Then it was time to go.
He threw a major tantrum, crying, rolling and writhing on the floor. Not a pretty scene, especially in public. It took 20 minutes of constant work by me and Mike (one of the staff members) to calm him down enough so he would stand up and walk down the stairs. Mike did a really great job, but Tom weighs 160 lbs. and is strong and determined.
This is one of the reasons Tom has professionals to care for him, rather than continuing to live in our house. Even so, it was hard to take.
