First bike ride of spring

The weather was nice, the taxes were done, I needed exercise. So, rather than go to the Health Club I went to the garage and pulled out my bicycle. I hesitated a bit about which way go to, but settled on almost due west. This put me on Ramsey County Road C, which eventually becomes 29th Ave. in Northeast Minneapolis. I continued that way on to Hayes St., stopping in front of what had been my grandmother’s house decades ago. No idea who lives there now, but they seem to be keeping the place up.

At that point I decided to head back, but by a somewhat different route. I took St. Anthony Parkway, heading Southeast. Crossing New Brighton Blvd. it goes by the cemetary where my grandparents (maternal) are buried. I stopped to visit their graves, which I am now able to locate quite quickly. Then I headed back home–nothing fancy, into Roseville through the industrial park at the west end, then past Rosedale Mall and its various outworks, and home. From start fo finish at home the ride took about 1½ hours.

My bicycle is about 25 years old, but I have kept it up (with the aid of various bike shops) and it is still more than serviceable. It is a 10-speed Peugeot. 10 speeds were standard when I was riding around Stanford in the ’70’s, but I don’t know if they are even made nowadays. A friend of ours just got a 32-speed bike. I still find 10, with the gears I have, to be fine for all the local roads and bike paths.
