Irish Workshop – Saturday morning and afternoon

Despite the lively evening. I slept very well last night, much better than I usually do on the road.

After breakfast the day’s work began. We have worked on

  1. The copula–The “other” form of “to be” in Irish. Much clearer now.
  2. Describing our neighborhoods. I said “Tá mo cheantsr cairdiúil ach leadranach.”–“My neighborhood is friendly but boring.”
  3. Possesives–my, your, his, hers, etc.
  4. Verbs in various forms, includin indiect speech (“She did not say that he….”)
  5. Seán agus an gas pónaire–“Jack and the Beanstalk” as Gaeilge.
  6. Prepositions and prepositional phrases.
  7. Writing Irish dialogue for various situations which were presented to us. My group chose the case of a drunk who accidentally goes home to the wrong house(but he thinks it is his house). He is in the kitchen, making a sandwich and tea, when he is confronted by the woman who lives there.
  8. We split into two teams and played a game of Jeopardy in Irish. Dictionaries not allowed. In addition to coping with the Irish, I was hampered by my limited knowledge of popular culture.

We have a break now, so I can post this. A couple other notes.

  • Entering fadas on my Nokia 770 is not hard.
  • The scenery here (St. Mary’s University, Winona) is lovely
