Today at work

…. started slow. I was short on sleep, and after getting up I checked my office calendar–no early meetings. So I signed out, taking comp time for my work on Sunday, and went back to bed.

I got to work a little after 9:30. A meeting at 10 confirmed I had made the right decision earlier. It was on replacing an accounting system, and conducted to be a cure for insomnia. There was no real reason for me to be there. It is way too early in the project for anything to really involve me. I am just recognizing the political realities of showing that my unit cares. However, that works much better if I do not doze off in the meeting. Just as well I had a couple extra hours sleep.

Does it has to be that way? Yes, that is the traditional stereotype. However, Enron, Worldcom et. al. have shown that accounting can be a fascinating and creative art. Somehow we don’t see that part. Of course, we also don’t see 20 years in prison, so perhaps that is just as well.

The afternoon was routine, but more satisfying. A couple database change requests that had to be done now, and a strange connectivity problem. Never did figure that one out–Eventually I just deleted all the old connection information and rebuilt it my way. Then everything was fine.
